Yoneharu
Yoneharu—which sits in a small street in Sakaemachi (in Sasebo City) located very close to the U.S. military base—is a long-established Japanese restaurant. Today, the restaurant is operated and managed by its third generation owner. A tempura dish composed of vegetables and seafood in season (tempura-fried) is a very popular, standard menu item at Yoneharu; in preparing this dish, the restaurant places strong emphasis on achieving and retaining the freshly fried, crispy texture of tempura. This tempura dish can be enjoyed with tentsuyu (a dipping sauce specially made for tempura) and sansho salt (a mixture of salt and sansho Japanese pepper). Yoneharu also offers a full-course Japanese meal featuring tempura as the main dish, which is highly recommended if you plan to dine with someone, or with a group, on a special occasion.
Owner’s comment
Most importantly, we would like our customers to eat delicious food and to feel safe while eating at our restaurant. In addition to our tempura dishes, we also recommend our (grilled) eel dishes. Our grilled eels are highly praised not only by Japanese customers in our region but also by American customers. Before grilling our eels, we also steam them once; that’s how we achieve fluffiness in our grilled eels, of which we are truly proud. Ever since they experienced our grilled eels for the first time, some American customers have repeatedly visited our restaurant, saying that our grilled eels are so fluffy and delicious. We hope that those who have not yet tasted our eel dishes will come by and try them once.
